A NEW TEAM OF INTERNS JOINED AI JUSTICE IN JANUARY

The AI Justice Detention Program works with people placed in ICE detention in Florida, conducting Know Your Rights presentations; interviewing detainees to determine whether they have a claim for release or legal residency; representing clients with their individual cases; and advocating for humane detention conditions. This Program benefits from the outstanding work of Equal Justice Fellow Franco Torres, funded by Greenberg Traurig LLP and the Florida Bar Foundation.

As part of his team, Mr. Torres recruits and oversees a group of law students and interns each semester.  Without their contributions, the program would fall far short of its goals.  A former intern described his internship as “my most rewarding academic experience” and noted the critical nature of the team’s work, particularly since AI Justice is the only non-profit organization providing services to detainees.
