The supporters of the Children’s Legal Program provide safety and stability to children who have no parent or guardian or who are in foster care – and yet are expected to represent themselves in complicated immigration proceedings. Without an attorney, only 1% of children who are entitled to immigration relief will receive it. Our Children’s team represents hundreds of these children each year, with success for 99% of them. For many, who would otherwise be returned to danger and abuse or end up on the streets, this could well mean the difference between life and death.
We were thrilled to receive two awards this fall for the work AI Justice and Cheryl Little have done on behalf of children. The David Lawrence Jr. Champion for Children Award was presented to Ms. Little at The Children’s Trust Award Luncheon on November 15 for her lifetime of achievement and dedication to children. Recognized as a leading immigration and human rights advocate, Ms. Little was honored to accept this award. The luncheon featured a short film that encapsulated her decades of commitment.
